Amadeus Ambient Services, a new innovation driven by Amadeus’ Innovation & Research division, was selected to represent Amadeus at PhocusWright The Launch and won the People’s Choice Runner Up Award.
What is Amadeus Ambient Services?
Amadeus Ambient Services is an industry-first web-based technology platform in testing phase that can deliver highly targeted, timely travel information and content to travellers in the growing channel of connected ‘things’ – including connected cars, homes and cities.
The platform will interact with the traveller throughout these touchpoints to:
- Deliver the information they need, when they need it, allowing them to make more informed trip decisions
- Book, pay and confirm ancillary or support services across the whole trip
How does Amadeus Ambient Services work?
Amadeus Ambient Services bridges connected ‘things’ with Amadeus’ systems. This web-based, opt-in technology can be embedded into any third party ‘smart’ touchpoint – be it in the dashboard of our cars or virtual assistant in our homes – with no installation required, just an internet connection.
Using analytics and contextualised traveller data, the platform can package the right service at the right time and offer it to the traveller through a variety of connected channels, including their car while driving, in their home, their hotel room and more.
What examples or cases are there for using Amadeus Ambient Services throughout the trip?
Imagine you get in your car and drive to the airport. Your house activates security and insurance promptly. It’s rush hour. Your car can book valet parking – saving you 15 minutes to just about make your flight. You land and pick up your rental car. Hotel check-in is extremely busy – you know this because your car tells you. So you check-in on the way, receive your mobile room key and head straight to your room to sit back and relax.
Has the platform actually been tested, or is it just a concept?
The platform is currently being experimented with car manufacturer PSA Group and Nice Cote d’Azur Airport. Booking parking or valet, expense management, or receiving relevant flight information are some of the features that are being pushed to the traveller at the right time, safely, in a car environment.
Why now?
Gartner, Inc. forecasts that 6.4 billion connected things will be in use worldwide in 2016, up 30 percent from 2015, and will reach 20.8 billion by 2020. In 2016, 5.5 million new ‘things’ will get connected every day. The world is getting more and more connected: connected cars, smart homes, smart TVs and smart cities should be considered as new touchpoints from now. In the coming years, the connected ‘things’ in our environment will become more and more proactive in terms of decision support. For travel, this will mean offering highly relevant and personalised solutions and products based on travellers’ context and location, with the ultimate aim to improve the travel experience, making it simpler and more convenient. Amadeus is currently building the technology so that travel providers and corporations can serve their travellers accordingly in these emerging channels. We want to be ready when the key players of this ecosystem will be ready and the environment is fully connected.
