Tourismus ist bunt – Lohospo

Lohospo's Immigration Story

We are pleased to introduce our colleague Mislav. At 30 years old, Mislav has already embarked on an exciting journey that took him from Croatia to Germany. His passion for tourism was sparked in his home country, where he successfully completed his studies. But his thirst for new challenges drove him to broaden his professional and personal horizons in Germany.

Armed with a basic knowledge of German—which he had acquired from some of the most unusual sources, such as the children’s TV show “SpongeBob SquarePants”—he took the plunge and moved to Germany. He quickly found his first job working the night shift at a hotel in Freiburg. Direct contact with colleagues and guests not only allowed him to quickly improve his German skills but also showed him that a good command of German would help him establish himself professionally in Germany.

New career opportunities eventually led him to Interchalet, a company specializing in the rental of vacation homes and apartments. There, he was able to broaden his professional horizons as an account manager. Not only did he continue to receive support from his supervisors, but he also took the opportunity to enroll in a language course offered by the company to further improve his German skills.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought unexpected challenges, but Mislav didn’t let that discourage him. After losing his full-time job due to layoffs, he found a new professional home at Lohospo. Since 2021, he has been an integral part of our Destination Support Team and has already proven himself to be a valuable employee. Among other things, he is responsible for the sales and implementation of our white-label solution. Thanks to his open and friendly nature, he has quickly established himself as a popular and important colleague on the team, and his adaptability and ambition are admirable. His personality also consistently receives positive feedback from our partners. One ongoing challenge for him remains perfecting the German language, particularly when it comes to German proverbs, which he sometimes puts together incorrectly. This, however, does not detract from his likability. According to Mislav himself, he will likely never be able to fully appreciate the Germans’ enthusiasm for popular sports like hiking and cycling. 🙂

However, Mislav’s commitment extends far beyond his professional duties. He is dedicated to promoting diversity within the company. For example, he recently organized an international day where each team member brought food and drinks from their home country. Ultimately, Mislav’s success in Germany stems not only from his own determination but also from the support and appreciation he has received from his supervisors and colleagues. He particularly values the appreciation and approach found in German leadership culture and is grateful for the opportunities he has been given.

Since Lohospo became part of the Holidu Group in 2022, not only has the company grown significantly in size, but its international reach has also expanded. With 23 offices across Europe and a team of over 500 employees, the company embraces diversity every day. Boundaries are breaking down as ideas and perspectives from different cultures and regions come together, contributing significantly to our company’s success. People from 67 different countries work at Holidu!
