When the joint website www.touristik-hilft.de went live in early March 2022 to help find housing for displaced people from Ukraine, no one could have imagined that this war would drag on for months. The suffering remains unimaginable.

When the portal launched, the situation for people seeking help was still unresolved and very confusing. Therefore, it was a shared priority—and we succeeded—to get the portal up and running in less than a week. In the meantime, however, government assistance has been organized and is now available, and people are making use of it accordingly. In this case, central contact points make sense.

For this reason, it was jointly decided to discontinue the provision of accommodation through the www.touristik-hilft.deportal.

Over the past few months, we have been able to help countless people facing dire circumstances. During this time, the team and our volunteers have received an overwhelming outpouring of gratitude. Colleagues have also handled one-on-one housing placements, enabling them to provide direct assistance in numerous other cases. For example, they arranged accommodations for larger families and groups and provided direct support in matching providers with those in need. One particularly emotional effort was the organization of the aid convoy to rescue orphans directly from the war zone.

Thanks to Peakwork – The Player Hub Network, the hashtag #Touristikhilft and the information gathered from it have given rise to a dedicated website and, within just a few days, a full-fledged network of volunteers. Incredible relief efforts have been launched, which would hardly have been possible without the excellent organization and management.

Only the accommodation booking service on the touristik-hilft.de portal is being suspended. Other activities under the industry-wide #touristikhilft initiative are not affected.
