Prof. Peter Wippermann

Peter Wippermann is a German trend researcher. He was a professor of communication design at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen.

After completing an apprenticeship as a typesetter and working at his father’s graphic design studio, as well as serving as a layout artist for the magazine*konkret*(1979–80), he became art director at Rowohlt Verlag and *ZEITmagazin*. In 1988, he co-founded the Hamburg office of the Society for Communication Design with Jürgen Kaffer and Peter Kabel. Starting in 1990, he served as editor of the futuristic magazine “Übermorgen” for the cigarette manufacturer Philip Morris; for the same company, he conceived the “Talk with Tomorrow” future events. In 1992, together with Matthias Horx, he founded Trendbüro Hamburg, a consulting firm specializing in social change.

From 1993 to 2015, he was a professor of editorial design in the Communication Design program at Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen (at that time, the program was still based at the University of Essen). In 1999, he founded the Akademie Bildsprache Foundation together with Horst Wackerbarth. In 2002, he co-founded the LeadAcademy for Media Design and Media Marketing. Peter Wippermann served on the advisory board of the Nestlé Future Forum (NZF)[1], as well as on the advisory board of the German Food Industry Association; he was co-editor of “Jahr der Werbung” (Year of Advertising), published by Econ Verlag; and a board member of the Efficiency Club of the Economy in Zurich.
